Site Media is a creative presence in Canada's documentary and short film community with a passion for making high quality films on art, culture and biography. Founded by Katherine Knight and David Craig in 2006, Site Media Inc. made an immediate impact with its first film Annie Pootoogook commissioned by Bravo Canada and Aboriginal Peoples Television Network. This was followed by a one-hour documentary, Pretend Not To See Me: The Art of Colette Urban (2009) funded by the Canada Council. In 2010 it completed Kinngait: Riding Light Into the World, for Bravo, Knowledge, TVOntario and APTN. KOOP about Winnipeg based artist Wanda Koop was the opening gala film of the 2011 Reel Artists Film Festival in Toronto. In 2013 Spring & Arnaud about artists Spring Hurlbut and Arnaud Maggs premiered at Hot Docs 2013 where it was a Top Ten Audience Favorite. Site Media's most recent film, Strange and Familiar: Architecture on Fogo Island premiered at Montreal's International Festival of Films on Art in 2015 where it won the award for Best Canadian Film and went on to be an award winning film at the Atlantic Film Festival in Nova Scotia the same year. It has since gone on to have multiple festival screenings around the world and has been broadcast on TVO, Knowledge, AVROTROS (Netherlands), SVT (Sweden) and CBC Newfoundland and Labrador.

Katherine Knight is an Associate Professor of Visual Arts at York University in Toronto and an award-winning photographer known for evocative landscape based photographic works with a strong narrative atmosphere. Prior to co-founding Site Media, David W. Craig’s career in creative arts management and media production included positions as head of the media arts at the Ontario Arts Council and as a business analyst at Telefilm Canada.

Katherine Knight established Site Media Inc. with partner David Craig in 2006 with the goal of creating documentaries on Canadian art and artists. Site Media has produced six films including “Annie Pootoogook” directed by Marcia Connolly and “Kinngait: Riding Light into the World”, directed by Annette Mangaard. In 2009 Knight directed, “Pretend Not To See Me,” which received Special Mention at the Ecofilm Festival, 2010 in Rhodos, Greece. Knight’s film, KOOP, about Winnipeg Artist Wanda Koop, was the gala night selection for Reel Artist Film Festival, Toronto, February 2011. With Marcia Connolly, Knight has directed the feature documentary, Spring & Arnaud, 2013 and Strange and Familiar: Architecture on Fogo Island, 2015.

Katherine Knight is an Associate Professor in the Department of Visual Art at York University where she teaches photography. Katherine received her BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1980 and her Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Victoria in 1984. In 2000 she received the Duke and Duchess of York Prize in recognition of excellence in photography. From 1996-2000 Katherine was the Dean of Fine Arts at the Ontario College of Art and Design.

Marcia Connolly

Marcia Connolly is an award-winning filmmaker, cinematographer and video journalist. In response to Connolly’s documentary on artist Annie Pootoogook, Atom Egoyan stated, “Her camera has found a beautiful way of implicating itself into Pootoogook’s community in Cape Dorset, creating an intimacy and sense of spiritual kinship which is profoundly touching and rare.”

Connolly’s independent films have shown internationally and nationally including at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume in Paris, the Toronto International Film Festival, International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Smithsonian Institute and at the Margaret Mead Film and Video Festival. Ghost Noise received the 2010 Lodestar Award for Best Canadian or International film at the Dawson City International Short Film Festival and Jury’s Choice First Prize at the Black Maria Film and Video Festival.
